& us.

not a dating app

For people you have actually met.

Every dating app is brilliant at putting a stranger in front of you and completely uninterested in what happens next — which was always the hard part. “& us” starts there: questions and small games for when you are already sitting across from someone.

No profile to fill in. There is nothing to fill in.

question 4 of ∞& us

The apps are good at the easy half.

Tinder, Bumble, Hinge — all superb at generating a stranger. None of them have anything to say about the ninety minutes after you sit down, which is the part everyone actually finds difficult.

They also cannot really help, because a person who successfully meets someone stops opening the app. “& us” has no such problem: it only ever works when you are already there.

What is not in here

  • A feed of strangers to scroll
  • Matches, likes, or an inbox
  • An algorithm deciding who you meet
  • Anything at all to do while alone

Questions that go somewhere

Ordered from easy to genuinely revealing, so you can go as far as the evening earns and stop where it does not.

Small games for two

Nothing needed but the two of you and maybe a table. Most take four minutes. Some are quite stupid, deliberately.

For the specific silences

The first ten minutes. The lull after the food arrives. The walk to the station where neither of you wants to end it yet.

How it works

  1. 01

    Meet someone. Anywhere.

A bar, a train, a party, a queue. That part is still entirely on you — the app has no opinion and no help to offer.

  2. 02

    Open it together

One phone, face up on the table between you. It is not a thing you use at each other.

  3. 03

    Put it away

It gives you something to talk about and then it is finished. If you are still on it twenty minutes later, it did not work.

Questions

Is this a dating app?

No. There is nobody to browse, match with, or message. It does nothing at all unless you are already physically next to a person. If you want to meet someone, this app cannot help you — it starts one step after that.

So who is it for?

Anyone sitting across from someone they do not know well yet. A first date you arranged elsewhere, a colleague you have never actually talked to, someone you met twenty minutes ago at a party. Romance is optional.

Is it free?

The core set of questions and games will be free. There may be paid packs later. Nothing that decides who you get to talk to will ever be behind a paywall, because there is no such mechanism to sell.

What do you do with my data?

As little as possible. There are no profiles, so there is not much to collect. Details in the privacy policy.
